Soy Wax and Wood Wicks
All K. Gravesen Creations candles are handpoured in Central Alberta by Katrina herself.
Soy Wax
Soy wax is all natural and an amazing alternative to toxic paraffin wax and a vegan alternative to bees wax. Soy melts at a higher temperature so you get more burn time out of a soy candle. Sustainably made from soy beans
Why We Don't Use Paraffin Paraffin (or petroleum wax) is the most common wax used in the production of candles, unless a candle says otherwise it is most likely made with paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is cheap but has awful consequences that come with the price tag. Paraffin also melts at a lower temperture then soy wax, meaning it burns quicker. Paraffin is a petroleum based wax and Studies show that when it's burned releases harmful carcinogens (toluene and benzene) and long term exposure may lead to skin irritation and respiratory issues. It is so toxic that there is a recommend exposure limit to paraffin fumes which is 2 mg/m3 over an 8-hour workday. Being a petroleum product, paraffin is made from a non-renewable resource making soy wax and beeswax the more sustainable options.
Fragrance oils some candles are scented using blends including fragrance oils. All fragrance oils K.Gravesen Creations uses are phthalate, sulfate and paraben free.
Wood Wicks and How To Light Them
Wood wicks are a nice alternative to cotton wicks because they crackle while they burn and have a more noticeable, flickering flame then a small cotton wick.
Sometimes wood wicks don't hold the flame the first time you light it, this is simply because the wick is too long. Use tweezers and remove some of the ash off the wick and light it again. Once the wick is the right length it will hold the flame.
